A round of Splatyard: crates, tyre stacks and shipping containers in the yard

Splatyard

First-person paintball in your browser. Four hits and you're out. No download, just play.

Paint only · no blood · no gore 🎮 Controller ready 💻 Best on a computer

Your locker

7 markers

Everyone starts with the Splasher. Splat people to earn coins and unlock the rest. Coins only get you new markers and looks, they never make you stronger.

Looks

Skins, headwear and finishes

Be a ninja, a pirate, an astronaut, a dino or a mech. You can spin your character round in the locker before you pick. Everyone sees your skin and hat, and you get to see your marker's finish the whole time you're playing.

Season 1

Season 1: Fresh Paint

30 tiers to get through. Every 500 XP moves you up one, and you get XP for splats, wins and daily challenges. Each tier gives you coins or stuff you can only get from the season, like a paint drip spray, a mint colour, a rainbow tag, a splattered marker finish and a trophy spray at the end. There's no paid pass. You can't buy any of it, you just have to play.

Kit

Gadgets

Paint bombs

Throw one round a corner. It goes off a second later and paints everything near it.

Barricades

Put down a wall wherever you need cover.

Smoke

You can't see through it but paint still goes through. Use it to cross open ground or spray into it and hope.

Climb anything waist-high

Jump at a crate and you'll pull yourself up on top. Being higher up helps, but people can see you better too.

Surge and plate

Go faster for 7 seconds, or get armour that takes the first two hits.

Ways to play

Modes

Free-for-all

Everyone against everyone. You respawn when you get splatted. First to 10 wins.

Attack & defend

One life each round. Defenders get 20 seconds to board up the room, then attackers try to splat the paint tank. You swap sides every round and it's first to 3.

Hold the room

Stay in the plywood room on your own to score a point every second. First to 60. If someone else is in there too, nobody scores.

Team battle

You and bots against more bots. 2 v 2 on normal maps, 3 v 3 on the big ones. You can't splat your own team. First team to 20.

Training yard & firing range

If you're new, the training only takes about 2 minutes and shows you all the controls. The range lets you try every marker before you spend any coins.

Marker rush

Every time you splat someone your marker changes to the next one. You win by getting a splat with the Longshot.

Maps

The Yard

Crates and tyre stacks around a plywood room. A good map to start on.

Warehouse

Long rows of shelves with a room at each end. Loads of corners.

Barn

Mostly open with one long wall down the middle. Good for the Longshot.

Rooftops

Four tall buildings with stairs up the side. If you get the roofs you'll probably win.

Townhouse

A house with an upstairs. There are stairs inside, a window you can climb in through, and hatches in the floor you can shoot out and drop through onto people.

Valley biggest map

80 by 50 metres. Each team has a bunker with a paint turret, and there are Splat Wagons, trees, sandbags and a hill in the middle. In team modes you start at your base.

Farm big map

Twice as big as the normal maps. There's a barn with a hayloft, a silo, loads of hay bales and fences, and four buggies to drive around in.

Harbour

Shipping containers stacked two high. Use the steps to get on top or grapple straight up.

Fort

Towers in each corner with long stairs, walls you can run along, and a keep in the middle with the best view on the map.

Quarry new · biggest

110 by 70 metres of sand and rock. Cliffs, a container stack, a mesa in the middle, Paint Tanks and quad bikes. It's 4 v 4 with bots.

Bots can be easy, normal or hard. Hard ones see further, aim better and react nearly as fast as you.

Operators

Your operator decides which gadget you get. There are 9 of them, a few are free and the rest cost coins. None of them do more damage than anyone else.

New

The walls don't stay up

There's a plywood room in the middle of the yard. Paint wears the boards down, bombs blow holes in them and Bash can smash a whole panel in one hit. Patch can make a wall stronger so it lasts longer. The room ends up different every round.

Make your own

Map editor

Build your own map from above with crates, walls, stairs, upstairs floors, hatches, buggies, wagons and turrets. Press Play to try it, then send it to your friends as a link or use it in a private room.

New

Vehicles

The big maps have buggies and quad bikes, plus Splat Wagons (one drives, one uses the paint turret on the back) and on Quarry the Paint Tank, which is slow and tough and fires a cannon that bursts like a paint bomb. Each team's base has a paint turret too. Vehicles take damage: they start smoking, then catch fire (with paint), then break down. A broken one stays there as a wreck you can hide behind, and you can crouch behind any vehicle to stay out of the paint. The bots can drive as well, and if a bot's driving a wagon you can jump on the back and use the turret.

Play together

Play with your mates

Press Make a room in the game and you'll get a 4 letter code and a link to send. Anyone with it joins your match and nobody else can get in. Splats, wins and challenges all give you XP, and every 5th level gives you bonus coins.

Coming up

What's next
